PODCAST: Archbishop Wilson visits volunteers collecting supplies for refugees
Archbishop John Wilson visited volunteers at the White Eagle Club in Balham, South London, on Ash Wednesday to witness first-hand how the Polish community was responding to the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Ukraine.
The Archbishop, who arrived at the Polish Social Club with some essential supplies for families, witnessed generous donations of clothes, pillows, duvets, toys and sanitary products, which, as the photograph shows, were stacked from floor to ceiling.
With an estimated number of 1 million displaced people and refugees trying to cross the border into neighboring counties, including Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, these donations will be an essential lifeline for many, who will have been able to take little money and few possessions with them as they flee for safety.

In this podcast, recorded on Ash Wednesday, Archbishop John speaks about the need to remove obstacles to providing sanctuary, the importance of thinking about others with compassion, and the way in which we can support those fleeing conflict, whether through supplies of food or clothing.
He also asks us to consider giving alms during Lent but above all, he encourages everyone to pray for an end to this conflict.
